VRBAS, Serbia, Augkingpinarcade. 8 (Xinhua)-- Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has commended the progress made by Chinese companies in constructing the Belgrade-Subotica Railway.
During a visit to the final stages of construction at a railway station in Vrbas on Wednesday, Vucic met with representatives from China Railway International and China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), who are building the Novi Sad-Subotica railway line.
The construction of the 108-km railway line is set to be completed by late November. This section will connect Novi Sad, Serbia's second-largest city, with Subotica, located near the Hungarian border. With the already operational railway section between Belgrade and Novi Sad, travelers will soon be able to commute the 180 kilometers between Belgrade and Subotica in just one hour and ten minutes.
High-speed trains on the Novi Sad-Subotica line will reach speeds of nearly 200 km/h.
"We couldn't achieve this without their (the Chinese team's) expertise. It's essential because we lack the necessary knowledge to undertake such projects independently," Vucic remarked.
He emphasized that this project marks a significant milestone for the Serbian segment of the international Belgrade-Budapest railway, and also for promoting the Belt and Road Initiative in Central and Eastern Europe.■
